Spring Valley Vet Clinic

Rosie came to us through the Mower County Humane Society. They recommended SVVC as they gave a free wellness exam for adopted and spayed animals. The docs and staff spent over an hour on us with a very thorough exam. Rosie is the biggest dog I ever had at 58lbs. The doc said she has to gain at least 20lbs to be healthy but reassured us that with some patience she would become a fine dog. Rosie quickly gained the weight and now weighs 90lbs. I give her all the exercise she can handle. Rosie has quickly become a neighborhood favorite. All the kids know her and she loves being chased by them. 2 of our neighbors have 2yr old daughters that have a special relationship with her. Finally, all our neighbors have gardens and appreciate the fact that since Rosie came to town rabbits are scarce, as she keeps them moving and finds their nests. Her secret talent is finding voles, wether under the snow or rocks, or in their tunnels. The first few weeks we had her she would find them and immediately eat them. Now, she just kills them. She knows that our neighbors, who often request us to detour through their yards, give her treats when she finds them.

We were out at a state park camping when I believed my dog ate a lead fishing weight. I couldn’t prove what she ate, but I could only base it on noticing that a careless fisher person left a lead weight on the picnic table, as well as a fishing hook that I had not noticed prior. Not knowing what she ate, I was extremely upset and scared for my dog’s well-being. I immediately called Spring Valley vet clinic and asked what I should do about it. They told me to bring her in, so off we went. I loaded up the kids still in their swimsuits and they took us immediately. The x-ray showed that she did not eat anything thank goodness. I was beyond happy to have that peace of mind. I would’ve been so upset the whole trip and beyond not knowing if she ate lead. I was stressed out about the situation and overwhelmed in general because camping with three kids and two dogs by myself is just, well, stressful. I was trying not to cry, but broke down. I’m not sure if that’s what made them move us, but they gave us a really nice room with a couch so we had privacy. I very much appreciated that! Overall, I did not feel judged, I felt like they treated the situation with urgency, and they were all so pleasant. We had never been there before since we’re not from here, so I was quite surprised by their level of care for us. My kids were in great spirits about the whole thing, they were very positive that our puppy would be OK and they were right! The vet also gave my kids fun activities to do while we waited for some answers.
